lavender martini :: friday at five

I had the most spectacular lavender martini last night

at a fun little place called Shuga’s.

I found this recipe from Queensland Homes.

  • 2-3 lavender sprigs
  • 5 ml Parfait Amour
  • 5 ml Dry Vermouth
  • 60 ml Bombay Sapphire Gin *

Bruise one sprig of lavender in a bostonglass with

a muddling stick. Fill with ice and add parfait amour,

vermouth, and gin. Stir and strain into chilled martini

glass, garnish with a lavender sprig* or other quality gin,

such as Martin Miller’s or Tanqueray.

absinthe and olive

Green screams spring to us. A garden of paradise.

{via} Green and turquoise, what a phenomenal combination. The chair looks like it might be easy to find, the peacock on the other hand may be a little more difficult.

{via} Porch Light Interiors with Hayley & Tracey, we adore their Australian style. Loving the leopard pillow up against the green velvet couch.

inspiration :: new artwork

When flipping through interior design magazines and my daily list of blogs {desde my ventana is one of my faves}, certain images conjure up ideas for artwork. These beautiful rooms do just that for me. Next step, I go on an imagery hunt, searching for images from the 18th and 19th centuries … this process can take days, months, and sometimes years.

This image screams PERFECT for the artwork that I have in mind. Now on to all the minute details [the textiles, the background, the little details that hide throughout the work] and then the sketching process. Stay tuned.

murder of crows

Our lucky day. Thanks to Terri at Crow Woman Quilts, we are featured on her Etsy treasury.

Don’t miss the “INQUISITION,” a beautiful hand printed, limited edition intaglio etching by artist, Larry Vienneau.

We’re also wild about, Feather 126, an original watercolor of a simple feather. Check out Jody Edward’s artwork.

the boy who bit picasso

The delightful true story of Tony Penrose, who counted Pablo Picasso – a friend of his parents – among his boyhood playmates. Filled with fun facts for tiny art aficionados, this book offers a rare and charming glimpse into Picasso’s personal life. A perfect gift for children and their parents. {via} An interesting article on Tony Penrose, here.

horoscope :: coasters

We’re loving these coaster dishes by Thomas Paul :: made of melamine, 4.5 inches at four dollars apiece. We’re especially fond of Leo, Aires, Cancer, and Pisces — although wouldn’t it be fun to have all represented and furnish each guest with their corresponding sign? {via} Hmmm, this is giving me an idea for a new collection of belt buckles. Stay tuned.
