cherry gin and tonic :: friday at five

I love blogs for foodies that are impeccably designed. I’ve gone completely bonkers over this newly found blog, spoon fork bacon.

Sweet Cherry Gin & Tonic
Serves 4 to 5

Ingredients:
cherry-lime simple syrup:

¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons sweet cherry juice
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
½ cup granulated sugar
2 cups gin (“Tanqueray Rangpur” is my favorite for this)
¼ cup fresh lime juice
8 cups tonic water
fresh lime wedges

Directions:
1. Place the cherry juice, lime juice and sugar into a small sauce pan and simmer until the sugar dissolves.
2. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
3. In a pitcher stir together the cherry-lime syrup, gin, and lime juice.
4. When ready to serve fill glasses with ice and pour ¼ cup of the gin mixture into each glass.
5. Fill the glasses with tonic water, stir and serve with lime wedges.

April Fool’s Martini :: Friday at Five

A riddle: When is an Apple Martini not an Apple Martini?

The answer: Today.

In honor of April Fool’s Day Aisha Sharpe was challenged  to come up with a cocktail that tricks both the eye and the palate. No matter how many times you read the recipe, when you see her Apple Fool’s Martini you expect to taste a cloying sweet Apple Martini. But her drink—which calls for tequila, Chartreuse, ruby red grapefruit juice and basil—is distinctly herbal with a spicy and tart kick. Simply tricky. {via}

Happy Friday everyone.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1.5 oz Don Julio Blanco Tequila
  • .5 oz Green Chartreuse
  • 5 Basil leaves
  • 1 oz Ruby red grapefruit juice
  • .75 oz Lime juice
  • .75 oz Simple syrup (one part sugar, one part water)
  • Garnish: Thin apple slice or maraschino cherry
  • Glass: Martini

PREPARATION:

In a shaker muddle the simple syrup and basil leaves. Add the remaining ingredients and ice. Shake and strain into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with a thin apple slice or a maraschino cherry.

cherry blossoms

What a great way to liven up a bare wall. Two sisters, Joanne designs and produces the decals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia while Adrina runs their etsy store from Melbourne, Australia. The easy to apply decal sets come with: 1 x hard plastic squeegee, 1 x easy-to-follow instructions, and 1 x suggested layout. We’re fond of the cherry blossoms but they have an amazing amount of interesting designs, or you can suggest a custom design. Blank Canvas Designs.
