a splash of gold :: art

Painted or foiled, there’s no resisting gold {silver or copper too}.  I use a lot of metal leaf in my artwork and will continue to do so until I run out {which isn’t anytime soon — I bought a boat load of every color, a weak and expensive moment while browsing in our local art store for a kneaded eraser}. No matter how often I see shiny metal {S-H-I-N-Y}, I’m always in awe of the many ways it can be creatively used — especially in art.

Gld Artwork 2
We’re in love with ACRYLIC CANVAS paintings. Frances Katz of BlueBerry Glitter aced this piece. A unique canvas alternative that I’ve been toying with trying. The only issue is, I would have to apply papier collé and oil without being able to see the art as it is being applied. Unless of course I had a mirror below the acrylic {it would feel like I was upside down and inside out}. A challenge worth trying. BlueBerry Glitter has this process in the bag! This piece is sold but she has a lot of artwork that is truly worth checking out.

pairing art :: beloved gold antler + adobe living

Absolutely adoring this adobe living room, but we’ve agreed … it needed artwork. We have paired “beloved gold antler” with this clean natural space. Be sure to check out the rest of Alexandre de Betak’s abode. Note to self: remember the natural rock formations left in the flooring {here} … could make for a nasty fall in the middle of the night.

PAIRING_ Eagle Imperial

We couldn’t resist adding, a slightly larger than life, Eagle Imperial above the fireplace of Natalie‘s MHM Living Room. We løve Natalie’s style and how she pulls together such a clean and earthy palette — adding just the right touch of green velvet, ummmph.

unconditional love :: sacred heart

heartsaint
Okay, so I’m not super religious. But, for whatever reason, I’m simply fascinated by the beauty of the sacred heart. Whether it’s a tattoo or in fashion or in religious artwork … I’m drawn to it like a June bug to light. Plus, I admire what it stands for — fortitude, rebirth and unconditional love.

feather in the night :: off the easel

Feather in the Night, 10″ x 10″, papier collé and oil, birch wood canvas, resined. Completed and sold.

Never a dull moment when creating a night scene, the process of creating depth with black oil pastels and trimming out all the stars and making them pop with gold metallic oil. Dreamy. ~ Nadine
